Renovation Tips and Tricks

Some quick tips when planning that dream renovation

  1. Don't underestimate the cost of renovations. Costs add up quickly, numerous steps and unseen material/fasteners go into creating that beautiful kitchen/bathroom etc and they aren't cheap. Cabinets, vanities and other fixtures make up just one cost in the equation.
  2. Consider if you are over renovating. To get the most out of your renovation budget, you must first be honest: When completing a home renovation, you are spending money, not investing money. With this in mind, consider the reasons why you want to update and renovate and then spend accordingly
  3. Do the legwork to set a realistic budget. Get multiple quotes (2-3). Don't compare your home to HGTV. Add more for some unforeseen issues and add-ons later. Answer questions honestly.
  4. Figure out Finances. Savings, Line of credits and rebates. Consider all funds and associated costs to use the funds
  5. Be patient. Planning, organizing, and scheduling take time, and someone who offers to do it by skipping these steps is a recipe for huge cost overruns and unprofessional workmanship.
