Entertaining Oasis

Entertaining Oasis

If you’re someone who loves to host, then this week’s blog post is for you! Check out our top tips to transform your home into an entertaining oasis.

Open concept

Closed-in spaces are not ideal when entertaining. That’s why we love a well thought-out open floor plan. Creating flow between the kitchen and living area with several areas to congregate and different seating arrangements will ensure guests can mix and mingle freely.

Kitchen counter seating

If you hate an audience while you prep in the kitchen, then this tip may not be for you. But in Nova Scotia, the more room to gather in the kitchen, the better! Bar stools are an easy addition to a kitchen countertop, and the added seating invites guests to spend more time with the host.

Main level powder room

This may be more of a luxury than a must-have, but a main level powder room will benefit your guests and the homeowner.  A central washroom on the main level means guests don’t have to venture through your home to find the closest washroom. It also means you don’t have to worry about tidying up that everyday bathroom that gets the most use (bonus!).

Finished basement

The easiest way to create more space in your home is to tackle that unfinished basement. A heated rec room is perfect for movie night, a pool table, or just comfy seating where people can gather and hang out.

Outdoor living space

Take advantage of the great outdoors with a porch, deck or patio. Outdoor seating, a pergola or sun shade and privacy walls are all perfect ingredients for a spring or summer bash. There’s plenty of weather-resistant furniture to make the outdoors just as comfortable as the inside of your home.

Indoor-outdoor flow

Once the warmer weather hits, it’s nice to give guests the option of being inside or outside. Glass doors, where guests have a clear view into the backyard, make a space feel more open and allow natural light to flow through. Doors in the living room, dining room or kitchen invite guests to move inside and outside freely.

Spacious entryway

Greeting multiple gusts at a time is easiest with a spacious entryway. This way, guests aren’t cramped as they remove their coats or shoes. Bright lighting will also be appreciated as guests enter and leave your home.

Outdoor lighting

It shouldn’t be a challenge for guests to determine which home is yours. Make sure your house numbers are well-lit and there is a clear, also well-lit, pathway to your front door.
